As you spring clean this season. Remember to spring clean the mind and body.
When the days become longer and lighter there seems to be an urge to clean. It feels instinctive to clear out the winter from our personal space. Especially this year after the long pandemic winter you may be feeling this urge to clear your physical space whether that be your living space or even the garage. What about your inner space? Can we include this in a spring clean?
Try this mindful practice on a spring walk
Release and let go
Spring naturally brings longer days. These can feel more spacious. Can you invite this sense of spaciousness into your body and mind? Take some time in nature or find a favourite quiet location to contemplate what it is that could be cleared to make space. What are you holding on to that is no longer serving you? This could be a thought pattern or simply the sluggishness of winter. Once this becomes clear focus on the release with each exhale. Feel the release and letting go in your body.
Make Space for something new
When you feel the sense of spaciousness that this exercise can create invite in something new. Notice the new growth around you. Perhaps young shoots appearing under the Fall leafs. This new growth can appear very tentative in the early spring. It needs to be nurtured by the warmth of the sun, the spring rains. Can you name and nurture what is it that you would like to invite in? When this becomes clear focus on the invitation with each inhale.
Finally, return to the equal awareness of the exhale and the inhale. Notice the balance of your breath. The opportunity to release and renew with each full breath.
Enjoy and remember that simple practices like this can help us to thrive.
Consistency is the key to long lasting benefit.
